FORT MYERS, FL -- The Fighting Sioux baseball team was swept by regional foe Southwest Minnesota State University by scores of 3-0 and 4-1.
Game 1 -- North Dakota - 0 SMSU - 3
UND was unable to overcome the pitching performance of Aaron Lindstrom of Southwest Minnesota State. Lindstrom only gave up two hits and struck out two for the complete game victory. Collecting the two hits for North Dakota was second baseman Tyler Frenzel and Tim Burns.
North Dakota got another quality start from junior Sean Cooley. In the complete game loss, Cooley gave up seven hits and struck out four. Cooley was charged with two earned runs in the loss. It is Cooley's first loss of the season for the Sioux.
With the loss, UND falls to 3-2 on the season and and SMSU improves to 6-4.
Game 2 -- North Dakota - 1 SMSU - 4
UND's Rob Bird Horse came up on the short of the stick in a pitcher's duel with Southwest Minnesota State's Adam Schrader. Bird Horse gave up eight hits and struck out one and walked one in the 4-1 loss.
The North Dakota bats pounded out hits against Schrader all game long, but didn't score until the bottom of the seventh inning. Nate Meissner, Chris Gulsvig and Anthony Brenner all went 2-3 in the game. Tyler Frenzel and Scott Schmidt each collected one hit in the game.
North Dakota falls to 3-3 on the year and Southwest Minnesota State improves to 7-4 on the season.
North Dakota returns to action tomorrow against Wayne (Mich.) State University in a double-dip. Game times are set for 4 p.m and 7 p.m. (EST) and will be played at Terry Park 1 in Fort Myers, Florida.
