GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Fighting Sioux baseball dropped a doubleheader to NCC rival Nebraska-Omaha by scores of 4-2 and 4-2. North Dakota falls to 14-15 overall and 3-9 in the NCC. Nebraska-Omaha improves to 28-16 overall and 12-2 in the NCC.
Game 1 - Nebraska-Omaha - 4 North Dakota - 2
The Fighting Sioux's Rob Bird Horse pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits and striking three while walking none. Bird Horse gave up three earned runs and was saddled with the loss.
UNO took the early lead after Evan Porter singled home Bryan Frew. North Dakota would tie it up in the bottom of the second off a homerun Tim Burns. It was Burns fourth homerun of the season.
UNO would retake the lead in the top of the fifth inning after scoring two runs on two hits and one UND error.
UND would score another run in the bottom of the fifth after Andrew Gudmunson singled home senior Nate Meissner. Nebraska-Omaha would add an insurance run on Casey Klapperich's solo homerun in the sixth inning.
Nate Meissner led the UND offense with two hits and a run scored. Tyler Frenzel, Andrew Gudmunson, Chris Gulsvig, and Tim Burns each added a hit in the contest. Gudmunson and Burns drove in UND's two runs.
Game 2 - Nebraska-Omaha - 4 North Dakota - 2
UND would take the early lead on Nebraska-Omaha in the first inning. Tyler Frenzel lead off the inning with a double down the left field line and was driven in by Nate Meissner on a single to right-center.
The Mavericks would tie it up in the second inning and took the lead indefinitely in the third inning. UNO would add insurance runs in the top of the sixth off of a homerun Chris Weimer and Matt Boro drove in a run with a double to put the Mavericks up 4-1.
UND would score another run in the bottom of the sixth on back-to-back doubles from Scott Schmidt and Nate Meissner.
Nate Meissner led the Sioux offense again with two hits and also drove in both Sioux runs. Tyler Frenzel, Scott Schmidt, Mike Lundeen, and Bo Stanley each added a hit in the contest.
North Dakota and Nebraska-Omaha will play a doubleheader on Sunday. The game times will be played at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. at Kraft Field in Grand Forks, N.D.
