ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The Fighting Sioux baseball team put up 11 runs and hit three homeruns in their 11-4 defeat of St. Cloud State. UND and SCSU were supposed to play a doubleheader, but rain postponed the second game to Sunday. North Dakota is now 17-16 overall and 5-10 in the NCC and St. Cloud State falls to 12-25 overall and 6-11 in the NCC.
Andrew Gudmunson, Scott Schmidt, and Nate Meissner each hit homeruns to lead North Dakota. The top six hitters for UND went a combined 14-25. Tyler Frenzel, Scott Schmidt, Nate Meissner, Anthony Brenner, Andrew Gudmunson, and Mike Lundeen each had multi-hit games in the contest. Meissner and Lundeen each had three hits. Schmidt, Brenner, Gudmunson and Frenzel each added two hits.
Junior Rob Bird Horse pitched five innings, allowing eight hits and three runs; two of which were earned. Bird Horse struck out four and walked none for his third victory of the season. Casey Bovkoon pitched two innings of relief and struck out two batters while allowing two hits.
UND and St. Cloud State started the second game and the game will be continued tomorrow. The games will start at the regular time at 12 p.m. at Springer Park in Cold Spring, Minn.
