FLORENCE, AL -- In their second game of the day, the Fighting Sioux volleyball team lost to Northern Kentucky 3-1. Northern Kentucky won the first game 30-22. The Sioux would answer back and win game two by the score of 30-25. Northern Kentucky would come back to win the final two games for the victory. UND drops to 0-2 on the season while Northern Kentucky improves to 1-0.

Sophomore Britta Hanson (Thompson, N.D.) paced the Sioux offense with 13 kills. Hanson finished the game with a .375 attack percentage. Senior Mary Blume (Herman, Minn.) and sophomore Amanda Polzin (Hutchinson, Minn.) each tallied 11 kills. Freshman Shanna Schmiesing (Sauk Centre, Minn.) contributed with seven kills in the contest.

Defensively, the Sioux were led by sophomore Ashley Holmen (Berthold, N.D.). Holmen finished the match with 14 digs. Junior Allison Louwagie (Marshall, Minn.) added six digs to her 34 set assists. Schmiesing totaled six digs for the Sioux.

UND will play on Saturday at 12 p.m. (CST) against 2006 Division II National Runner Up, North Alabama.
