FLORENCE, AL -- The Fighting Sioux volleyball team lost to host, North Alabama, 3-0. North Alabama improves to 2-1 on the season while the Sioux drop to 0-3. North Dakota played North Alabama tough in all three games as each game was decided by less than four points (34-32, 30-26, and 30-28).
Senior Mary Blume (Herman, Minn.) and sophomore Britta Hanson (Thompson, N.D.) paced the Sioux offense with 11 kills apiece. Sophomore Amanda Polzin (Hutchinson, N.D.) and senior Tara Holmen (Berthold, N.D.) had 10 kills and 8 kills, respectively. Setter Allison Louwagie (Marshall, N.D.) finished with 34 set assists.
Defensively, the Sioux were paced by sophomore Ashley Holmen (Berthold, N.D.). Holmen finished with 11 digs, the second consecutive game in which she had double-digit dig totals. Stephanie Mason (So. Excelsior, Minn.) tallied nine digs in the contest. Polzin added four block assists to her 10 kills.
The Sioux finished the match with a .304 attack percentage (46 kills, 13 attack errors on 108 attack attempts).
North Dakota will return to action later today as they play its last game in the North Alabama Classic against Tusculum College. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
