OMAHA, Neb. ? A quick goal in the first three minutes of play set the tone for Creighton women's soccer team, who went on to defeat the Fighting Sioux 6-0 Tuesday evening. The win increases the Bluejays record to 11-5-0 while the Fighting Sioux drop to 4-12-0.

Mary Zapapas scored the first goal at 2:55 off a free kick to give the Bluejays the advantage. At 14:51, Emily Orbell assisted Macy Mauer during a corner kick to increase the lead to two. Nearly three minutes later, Marcy Gans would score her 14th goal of the season off a penalty kick.

The Bluejays would add another at 35:37 when Annemarie Hengel scored an unassisted goal, her first of the season, giving Creighton a 4-0 lead going into the second period.

Hengel started the second period off strong for the Bluejays when she connected with Nicole DeLue at 54:12. Hengel would add another goal at 65:49 to give the Bluejays the 6-0 win.

In net for the Fighting Sioux were Erin Pederson (Sr., Grand Forks, N.D.) and Lauren Sera (Sr., Winnipeg, Man.). Receiving the win for the Bluejays was Alicia Montgomery. Pederson and Sera combined for four saves on the day while Montgomery had five.

Creighton led UND in shots, 23-12. Lara Traczyk (Sr., Markham, Ont.) led the Fighting Sioux with three shots in the game.

"Despite the score, we played really well today," said head coach Kristen Gay. "I'm proud of our team today for battling it out the entire 90 minutes. We are excited about getting another chance at South Dakota on Saturday."  

The Fighting Sioux will close out the 2008 season with a game at Vermillion, S.D. on Saturday, Oct. 25. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
