North Dakota grabs final Great West Conference accolades

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Following an action-packed 17-16 win over Central Arkansas in the 2009 season finale, the University of North Dakota grabbed all three Great West Conference Player of the Week awards. Junior quarterback Jake Landry was named the offensive player of the week, junior linebacker Curtis Dublanko was named the defensive player of the week, and sophomore Broc Bellmore was selected the special teams player of the week for the second time this season.

Landry, a Grand Forks, N.D., native, was 16-for-28 (.571) for his fourth 200-yard game of the season. He also threw a pair of touchdowns for the fourth time in his first year as UND's starting quarterback.

The first TD toss came with just 32 seconds remaining in the first half and cut the Sioux deficit to six. After the UND defense fouled a UCA attempt to convert on fourth-and-one, Landry worked the Sioux downfield with a string of passes. Then with the ball at the Bears' 29-yard line, senior Brandon Hellevang (K, Fargo, N.D.) split the uprights, but the play was called back after an offside call on Central Arkansas. With a newly gained first-and-ten, Landry found senior Kellen Leupp (WR, Stanley, N.D.) for a 16-yard pass. Three plays later, Landry's pass to sophomore Chris Anderson (WR, Duluth, Minn.) bounced off of the UCA defender and into the air. Anderson tracked it down, snatched it from the air and stepped into the endzone for the score.

Landry found his second scoring receiver in the third quarter. After forcing the Bears to three-and-out, he hit an open Ismael Bamba (WR, So., Montreal, Quebec) for a 46-yard strike. Landry followed with a 24-yard pass to Leupp and the capped the seven-play, 85-yard drive with a 22-yard TD pass to senior Noah Dombrovski (LB, Foley, Minn.).

Landry finished the season ranked sixth in the UND recordbooks in single-season pass attempts (301) and seventh in single-season pass completions (178).

A Thorsby, Alberta native, Dublanko led all defenders with a career-high 10 tackles (six unassisted). His 10 stops tied a career-high that he set just two weeks prior in the Great West Conference championship game at UC Davis. Dublanko registered six of his total stops and five of his solo tackles in the first half alone and was credited with three-consecutive tackles in UCA's third drive of the game.

Bellmore, who has now been nicknamed "Block Bellmore" by his teammates, grabbed the special teams nomination after coming up with a pair of blocked kicks for the second game this season. With 17 seconds left on the clock and the Fighting Sioux holding onto a 17-16 lead over Central Arkansas, Bellmore ended the Bears' season as he blocked a 43-yard field goal attempt by Eddie Carmona.

Six drives earlier, Bellmore managed to get a hand on a 42-yard attempt by Carmona just after the Sioux took the lead.

Bellmore registered his first set of blocked kicks in UND's 27-12 Homecoming, home-opener win over South Dakota (Oct. 3). He finished the season with four of UND's total eight blocked kicks this season, the most by any player in a single-season over the past 20 years.

With the win over Central Arkansas, North Dakota finished 6-5 2-2 GWC and grabbed its seventh-consecutive winning season and its 19th over the past 20 seasons.
