GRAND FORKS, N.D.--The Fighting Sioux tennis team opened the University of North Dakota Invitational with a 7-0 victory over Bemidji State this afternoon at Center Court Fitness Club.

Senior Emily Callison (Mesa, Ariz.) and junior Molly Maurer (Hutchinson, Minn.) began the afternoon with an 8-3 No. 1 doubles victory over BSU's Kali Welu and Kelli Christiansen.

UND then put together back-to-back 8-2 wins in No. 2 and 3 doubles, first by Katie Callison (Jr., Mesa, Ariz.) and Katie Wessman (Sr., Fargo, N.D.) as the No. 2 pair, then by Brynne Wischer (Jr., Grand Forks) and Tiffany Reisenauer (Fr., Dickinson, N.D.) in the No. 3 slot.

Emily Callison then cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Welu in No. 1 singles play, while sister Katie Callison notched 6-1, 6-0 victories over Nicole Christiansen inm No. 2 singles.

Wessman and Reisenauer, in No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, each earned straight-set victories with identical 6-0, 6-2 scores.

Singles matches involving Wischer (No. 3) and Maurer (No. 4) were unfinished. Wischer was leading 4-0 when the match was called and Maurer had been up 2-0.

UND will continue tournament play tomorrow morning against the University of Mary at 8 a.m.
