GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? The University of North Dakota head women's track and field coach Dick Clay announced the yearly individual awards for his team on Friday. Senior Jessica Clausnitzer (Bismarck, N.D.) was named the top field athlete on the team, while Brittany Brenny (Staples, Minn.) was honored as the team's top track athlete.
A pair of juniors shared the team's Most Imrpoved award as Kristi Dalheimer (Anoka, Minn.) and Kayla Pfau (Minot, N.D.) each had strong seasons for the Fighting Sioux.
Clausnitzer capped off her Fighting Sioux career by sweeping the pole vault titles at the inaugural Great West Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships this season. She also took the event title in the 60-meter hurdles at in the indoor championships with her winning time of 9.08.
Brenny took third place in the 10,000-meter run at the Great West Outdoor Championships, then followed up that performance the next day with a runner-up finish in the 5,000-meter in a time of 17:29.86.
Dahlheimer made a marked improvement from the indoor to outdoor season for the Sioux. After placing seventh in the 3,000-meter run at the Great West Indoor Championships, the North Dakota native won the 3,000-meter steeplechase event in 11:46.81 at the outdoor championship.
Pfau gave the Sioux a nice combination in the pole vault, placing third at the league's outdoor event.
