GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? University of North Dakota head baseball coach Jeff Dodson announced the addition of Kody Kennedy to his squad for the 2010 season on Tuesday. Kennedy signed a National Letter of Intent on Monday to continue his collegiate career with the Fighting Sioux.
Kennedy comes to UND from Miles Community College (Montana) where he spent the previous two season compiling a 18-3 record on the mound for head coach Rob Bishop.
"I chose the University of North Dakota because of the coaching staff, school, and community,” Kennedy said. “It is a place that provides everything I want to get better as a student and as an athlete."
The lefthander was a second-team Division II All-American as a freshman in 2008. He was also named to the All-Mon/Dak Conference and All-Region teams after going 10-1 with 105 strikeouts in 73.1 innings of work.
The five-foot-10 southpaw backed up his freshman season with another solid season as a sophomore, posting a 8-2 record with 102 strikeouts in 70 innings.
"Kody is a phenomenal addition for our program,” Dodson said. “He is a hard throwing left-hander with the ability to really put hitters away. His best baseball is still ahead of him and we are thrilled that he chose UND.
“He had several other options but felt really comfortable here. He gave us a verbal before he left campus and fills a void as a power lefty that we really needed."
Kennedy grew up in Butte, Mont., and prepped at Butte H.S. He is the son of Mike and Traci Kennedy.
Kennedy joins six other Sioux signees that will join the baseball team for the 2010 season. Those six players include infielder Jeff Bunch (Victorville, Calif.), pitcher/infielder Kris Kwak (Richfield, Minn.), outfielder Craig Dolmage (Grants Pass, Ore.), middle infielder Joey Leinweber (Puyallup, Wash.), outfielder Josh Ray (Yucaipa, Calif.) and righthander Travis Clifton (Monterey, Calif.).
