UND's Brenny successfully defends Ron Pynn Classic title

GRAND FORKS, N.D.--For the second consecutive year, University of North Dakota senior Brittany Brenny has won UND's annual Ron Pynn Classic at the Ray Richards Golf Course.

Brenny, a native of Staples, Minn., completed the 5K race in 18:10.07, 33 seconds faster than Ashley Storm of South Dakota State and 35 seconds faster than Shelby Kittrell of North Florida.

This year's meet was run as a "double dual," with all three teams running at once but being scored against each other as separate dual races.

UND fell to SDSU by a 33-24 score and lost to UNF by a 31-25 count.

Four other Fighting Sioux runners joined Brenny in the top 10 against UNF. Emily Emerson (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) clocked in at 19:01.42 to place fourth, Katherine Enabnit (So., Carmichael, Calif.) completed the course in 19:16.91 to finish sixth and Kristi Dahlheimer (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) finished ninth with a time of 19:51.57.

"She (Brenny) obviously had a good race," said UND head coach Dick Clay. "We had three people in the top 10, so it was a good start. I think we're where we kind of expected to be."

Five more runners also competed for the Sioux this morning: Anna Lipetzky (Fr., Moorhead, Minn.), Lori Benke (Sr., Jamestown, N.D.), Angela Kumm (So., Hutchinson, Minn.), Meghan Enabnit (So., Carmichael, Calif.) and Christine McIntyre (Fr., Eagan, Minn.).

Lipetsky, Benke and Kumm each counted toward UND's team score and placed 11th, 13th and 14th, respectively.

Lipetsky and McIntyre were each making their collegiate debut for the Sioux.

In the dual against SDSU, Emerson placed fifth, Katherine Enabnit was sixth, Dahlheimer was ninth, Lipetsky was 12th, Benke was 13th and Kumm was 14th.
