Check in each week as senior captain Whitney Ledger gives fans an inside look at the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux women's basketball program as they move through their second year of NCAA Division I transition and their first year of Great West Conference post-season eligibility.
Volume 9: Friday, Jan. 15
I know I have stated this in a previous blog, but every game, regardless of location, I am reminded how great our fans are. For those of you cheering us on as we played Seattle a couple Fridays ago ... thank you! You guys were awesome. When we started to get down, you guys lifted us up. Your momentum carried us through that game. Just know that we really do appreciate it.
Yesterday we took on the Wolverines of Utah Valley and defeated them 84-71 to win our first Great West Conference game. We have been waiting for conference all season and now that we have started out on a win, we know our goal is achievable. That goal is to win our conference.
I was thinking back when we first learned we would be making the transition to Division I and the any chance of post-season play was not possible. Coach Roebuck brought everyone in and explained that we had the option to go somewhere else and play - somewhere else that could be eligible for a national championship. No one left.
Right then, we knew we were in this together and there was no looking back. This goal of winning the conference is our national championship. And you best believe we are going to fight for it.
We take on our rivals USD tomorrow in Vermillion, S.D. We know it isn't going to be an easy game, but as always, we welcome any challenge.
Thank you for reading, but more importantly, thank you for being the best of fans.
