GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota head women's basketball coach Gene Roebuck announced today that Meghan Roehrich (Fargo, N.D.), Brianna Williams (Minneapolis, Minn.), and Chelsey Frydenlund (East Grand Forks, N.D.) have signed a National Letter of Intent to play the 2011-12 season at UND.
A 5-10 guard from Fargo South High School, Roehrich was 2010 North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year and a two-year member of the all-state, All-EDC, and all-tournament teams. As a junior, she led the Eastern Dakota Conference in scoring with 23.1 points per game and finished in the top 10 in all statistical categories.
With a 1,166 career points and one year remaining, Roehrich reigns as the all-time leading scorer at Fargo South. During her sophomore season, she set a school record with 34 points in a single game and finished in double figures on 23 occasions.
"Meghan is a very aggressive player," said Roebuck. "She can score from the outside and from the inside by going to the basket. I think she has the toughness needed to play at this level."
A 5-7 point guard from Hopkins High School, Williams averaged 9.2 points per game last season and returns to the court as the team's leading scorer. During the club season, she played with the North Tartan Nike Elite team based out of Minnesota.
"Brianna is a very strong player," said Roebuck. "She plays hard-nosed defense and can also shoot the three. She will have an immediate impact on our team."
A 5-8 guard from East Grand Forks High School, Frydenlund is the daughter of Fighting Sioux legend and EGF head coach Durene (Heisler) Frydenlund. With 1,302 career points thus far, Frydenlund, a three-time all-conference and two-time all-state team member, is on pace to become EGF's all-time leading scorer.
As a junior, she averaged 15.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, five assists, and 3.2 steals per game. Alongside Williams, Frydenlund played for the North Tartan Nike Elite team.
"Chelsey is a very athletic player," said Roebuck. "She needs to fine-tune a few skills, but she definitely has the quickness and the ability to play at this level."
