Naperville, Ill. - Redshirt freshman
Josh Schuler (Urbana, Ohio) earned a share of the Great West Player of the Week honors announced on Monday by league officials.
Schuler, who shared the accolade with South Dakota's Jake Thomas, scored a career-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting as the Sioux dropped a tight contest at Green Bay, 72-68, on Dec. 20. Schuler scored 13 of his game-high 22 points in the first half when he connected on all five of his field goals, three of which were from long distance.
"Josh had a great game at Green Bay and he continues to do the little things that do not always show up in a stat sheet," UND head coach
Brian Jones said. "He has been a calming presence on the floor for us through 12 games."
The 22 points more than doubled Schuler's previous season high of 10 points (twice) and were the most scored by a Sioux player in a game this season. He finished 5-of-6 from beyond the arc and also added an assist and a rebound. The five connections from 3-point range were also the highest total by a UND player this season.
The Fighting Sioux will return to action after a 10-day layoff when they play South Dakota School of Mines on Thursday at 7 p.m.
