UND baseball helps out Special Olympics on the hardwood

East Grand Forks, Minn. - For the second straight semester, the University of North Dakota baseball team served their friends at the North Dakota Special Olympics on a Saturday morning. After working with Special Olympic bowlers in the fall, the entire baseball team pitched in to help with a regional basketball tournament on Jan. 30.

The players worked in a variety of roles ranging from scoreboard operators to referees and concessionaires to coaches. If the players were not filling one of those roles, they were on the sidelines cheering on their friends at Special Olympics.

"It is always a pleasure for our guys to be able to work with the great people involved with Special Olympics," assistant coach J.C. Field said. "As we continue to do this, you can really see friendships starting to develop and see the joy that both our players and their athletes gain by spending time together."
