Magner earns spot on Great West All-Tournament Team

Edinburg, Texas – Junior Jake Magner (Grand Rapids, Minn.) was named to the Great West All-Tournament team following the conclusion of Saturday's championship game won by top-seeded Utah Valley in extra innings at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Magner went 5-for-14 (.357) with a pair of home runs and six RBI during the three tournament games played by the Sioux, who wrapped up their season with an 8-2 victory over Chicago State on Friday.

“Jake had a tremendous season and he capped it off here this week in Edinburg with some big numbers,” UND head coach Jeff Dodson said. “I was glad to see him move to the top spot on several single-season record lists during these three games as well.”

Magner broke three single-season records during the tournament. In the opening game against Houston Baptist, the Sioux first basemen went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI. His two hits set the record for base knocks in a season that was shared by Troy Wasiloski (2004) and John Somrock (1998) at 69.

In Thursday's contest against top-seeded Utah Valley, Magner set the single-season home run record and total bases record with a three-run shot in the ninth inning. Rogalla held both of those marks as well after belting 20 home runs and totaling 143 bases in 1998.

Magner hit safely in all three games after registering a double in the win over the Cougars on Friday. The Sioux finished their inaugural league tournament with a 1-2 record and concluded year two of Division I play at 19-35.
