Sadler collects Great West Player of the Week honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Fighting Sioux centerfielder Andy Sadler (Grand Forks, N.D.) was named the Great West Conference Player of the Week on Thursday, league officials announced. 

Sadler hit .471 for the week (8-for-17) and had the game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning of an 8-6 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Friday. Sadler had multiple-hit efforts in the first three games of the week before seeing his seven-game hitting streak come to a close in Sunday's series finale at SEMO. 

"Andy has been really hot at the plate for us and I am glad to see him get this honor," UND head coach Jeff Dodson said. "He leads our offense in several categories and it's nice to see a senior like him have a such a good start to the season."

Sadler had three hits and scored three runs in what was the first victory of the season for UND on Friday. He added three hits, including a pair of doubles, in Saturday's contest. He also had a 2-for-4 effort in a two-run loss at Kansas on Wednesday.For Sadler, it is his second GWC weekly honor (March 16, 2009).

HBU's Stephen Nikonchik, a senior from Katy, Texas, led HBU to a 7-4 victory at seventh-ranked TCU last Saturday. The right-handed hurler scattered nine hits while allowing four runs - two earned - in six solid innings against last year's college world series participant. Nikonchik finished the game with three strikeouts, while walking none.
