FARGO, N.D. - Senior
Christine Weinreich broke a school record in the weight throw, highlighting North Dakota's day at the North Dakota State Bison Classic.
Weinreich logged a throw of 51 feet, 11 ¾ inches to break her own school record. The Pismo Beach, Calif., native had previously set the standard at 50 feet, 5 ¼ inches. Her effort today was good for a third-place finish. She also placed third in the shot put with a heave of 41 feet, 8 inches.
Weinreich was one of several UND throwers to turn in impressive outings. Fellow senior
Brooke Biederstedt (Dickinson, N.D.) placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 11 inches, while
Megan Storstad (Jr., Grand Forks, N.D.), was fourth in the weight throw at 47 feet, 3 ½ inches.
Senior
Emily Emerson (Lino Lakes, Minn.) provided UND with its lone event title of the day, capturing the 800-meters with a time of 2:15.14.
Another senior,
Lindsay Anderson (Leeds, N.D.), placed third in the 3,000-meters, clocking a time of 10:14.40.
Notable finishes in the jumps included
Mikaela Hirst's third-place showing in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, ¾ inches. Hirst, a senior from Bismarck, N.D., also placed fifth in the triple jump at 35 feet, 2 ½ inches.
After a week off, UND will return to action Jan. 28 at Iowa State's Bill Bergan Invitational.
