GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Senior
Erin Wysocki led the pack of University of North Dakota runners on Saturday Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championships, finishing 25th in the field of 89 runners.
Wysocki, who hails from Grand Forks, N.D., led UND with a time of 17 minutes, 56.7 seconds. North Dakota placed 12th overall while playing host to the event for the very first time at Ray Richards Golf Course.
“We ended up 12th out of 12, but at the same time, the top-five all ran PRs,” said head coach Dick Clay after the race. “They went out and competed, and did what they were supposed to. Overall you can't complain about it. They had good times and they didn't beat themselves.”
Northern Arizona captured first in the Big Sky, and Eastern Washington's Sarah Reiter won the race with a time of 17:05.2.
Senior Jessica Lynch (Cologne, Minn.) took 46th, finishing just outside of the top half of the field with a time of 18:21.3. Junior Lydia Lutz (Park Rapids, Minn.) was UND's third-best finisher, running the 5K in 18:30.0.
Senior Anna Gessell (Brainerd, Minn.) and freshman Martha Hubbell (West St. Paul, Minn.) finished fourth and fifth for North Dakota with respective times of 18:37.2 and 18:43.1.
