GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- The University of North Dakota baseball team continued its devotion to giving back to the community with some recent community service. UND once again teamed with the local Special Olympics for a bowling event and also collected winter clothing for the Northlands Rescue Mission.
The symbiotic relationship with the Special Olympians goes back several years as both teams support each other. This fall, the UND team got a chance to bowl and next spring the team will host special home dates for their friends.
The University of North Dakota baseball team also once again helped spearhead a campaign to collect winter clothing for the Northlands Rescue Mission. Saturday, head coach Jeff Dodson and players helped deliver donations after collecting door-to-door and via a local drop-off site.
"It was another solid effort by our guys to help those in need," Dodson said as his team has gone door-to-door for the past four falls. "We collected some really nice stuff that hopefully helps out some of the many people that we got a chance to meet. We'd really like to thank Rydell Chevrolet for providing a drop spot and thank the people of Grand Forks and the surrounding area that contributed and helped out a good cause."
Players and coaches solicited donations all last week and last Saturday canvassed the greater Grand Forks area for donations to the clothing drive. The team then loaded trucks at Rydell Chevrolet with the donated materials.
