FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota opened the 2014 cross country season in fine fashion on Friday night, taking three of four duals at North Dakota State's Bison Open.
UND edged the host Bison 26-29 and added decisive victories over IPFW (19-40) and South Dakota State (19-36). The lone loss came at the hands of South Dakota, which defeated UND 25-30.
UND was led by a trio of runners in the top nine, the most of any school. Senior Jessica Lynch led the way, placing sixth with a time of 19 minutes, 17.55 seconds. Fellow senior Erin Wysocki, UND's Most Valuable Runner a year ago, was eighth with a time of 19:24.97.
Junior Lydia Lutz crossed the line in 19:32.36 and placed ninth.
Larissa Juelich and Martha Hubbell – running her first collegiate race – placed 12th and 15th, respectively, to give UND four runners in the top 20. Juelich clocked a time of 19:51.82 and Hubbell recorded a time of 19:59.02.
UND returns to action Sept. 20 at the University of Nebraska/Woody Greeno Invitational in Lincoln.
