GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- Former UND standout Tyler Follis was selected in the 28th round by the Colorado Rockies in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft Wednesday afternoon. He becomes the first MLB draft pick from the University of North Dakota since 2000, when Matt Mahoney was selected in the 48th round by the Milwaukee Brewers (did not sign).
Follis broke both the single-season (76) and career hits marks at North Dakota (240) following a phenomenal senior campaign that saw him hit .404 for the season. That average was good for second-highest in the Western Athletic Conference as he garnered All-WAC Second Team accolades.
The versatile shortstop, who also played second and third base as well as the outfield in his career, led UND with 22 multi-hit games as a senior. He strung together a career-best 26-game hitting streak by hitting safely in the final 16 games of last season and the first 10 of this year.
