GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Three University of North Dakota softball student-athletes have been recognized by the Big Sky Conference for their performances on the field this season. Redshirt sophomore pitcher Kaylin VanDomelen earned the program's first-ever All-Big Sky First Team honor, while senior Megan Keegan and freshman Mary Martin earned All-Big Sky Honorable Mention accolades.
VanDomelen, a native of Banks Ore., led the Big Sky during the regular season with 151 strikeouts. She was also fourth in the conference with a 3.19 earned-run average. In just two seasons in the circle for UND, VanDomelen ranks eighth in program history for career strikeouts with 208. She was also a force on the offensive side, as she led UND with 51 hits and 77 total bases. Her .298 batting average was third on the team, while her .450 slugging percentage was second.
Behind the plate, Martin made a big impact in the latter half of the season. Settling into her role part-way through the season, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native finished second on the team with a .298 batting average. She recorded a total of 37 hits, including seven doubles which ranks tied for 10th in program history for most doubles by a freshman.
Keegan, a native of Elk Grove, Ill., finished out her senior season with a bang, recording a three-game home run streak in the final weekend of play. She posted career highs in almost every offensive category this season: batting average (.267), runs (19), hits (31), home runs (8), RBI's (26), slugging percentage (.509), on-base percentage (.396) and total bases (59). Her .509 slugging percentage, eight home runs and 26 RBI's were also team highs this season for UND.
The all-conference honors are the first for each of the three student-athletes. Earlier in the season, VanDomelen earned the program's first Big Sky Pitcher of the Week award, while All-Big Sky Honorable Mention accolades are the eighth and ninth for UND since joining the league in 2013.
