MOSCOW, Idaho-- North Dakota picked up a road win in the Big Sky Conference with a 3-1 victory at Idaho Thursday evening (25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-18).
Senior Chelsea Moser led UND with a dozen kills while junior Faith Dooley added 11 kills and five total blocks. Junior setter Sydney Griffin chipped in 45 assists while redshirt freshman Alivia Fraase tallied a career-high 30 digs in the win.
“It's Idaho, you know it's going to be a fun match. I really felt like the match was a lot closer than the scores indicated,” UND head coach Mark Pryor said. “Tonight was a total team effort. Getting road wins are hard. Every player both on and off the court helped out.
“It was nice to have multiple players step in and help carry the load for us offensively. We got back to playing low-error and that's just what our identity needs to be. We just need to play hard and play clean and then we will always have a shot at success.”
North Dakota picked up its fifth win in six tries against Idaho all-time and just the second in fewer than five sets. This match had all the makings of another lengthy, five-set duel as UND squeaked out a 25-22 victory in a tight, back-and-forth opening set that featured nine tie scores and a pair of lead changes.
The second set, however, wouldn't be as close with the road team going on a 10-2 run to erase a 7-4 deficit. UND would close the set on a 5-1 spurt to take the lead in the match, two sets to none.
Idaho (6-9, 1-2) rallied for a 25-19 win in the third set but North Dakota made sure to keep it from going to a deciding fifth set by hitting .333 in a 25-18 fourth-set victory.
North Dakota (10-8, 2-1 Big Sky) heads to Cheney, Wash., to battle Eastern Washington Friday evening.
