NEWTON, Kan.-- North Dakota sits just eight shots off the lead following the first round at the 2019 Summit League Women's Golf Championships held at Sand Creek Station Golf Course Sunday. The three-day tournament wraps up Tuesday with four teams within two strokes of each other at the top of the leaderboard and four more within striking distance as the championship moves into Monday's second 18 of the scheduled 54-hole event.
Senior
Jenna Janu's 78 on the opening day stands up as tied for fourth individually through the first round, part of just eight players that stayed below 80 on the day. She navigated away from danger, piling up 10 pars and adding a birdie on the way to the six-over first round.
Ally Rogers and
Hanna Peterson each carded 83s Sunday while
Abby Schramel recorded an 85 on the 6,000-plus-yard track.
North Dakota is just five shots back of the top three in the team standings and trails leader South Dakota State by just eight.
Action continues Monday with the final round coming Tuesday.
