Fighting Hawks Off to Rhode Island for Quartet of Matches

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Fresh off a four-match weekend that saw North Dakota finish 3-1, the Fighting Hawks will head to New England for another quartet of matches in Rhode Island at the Hampton Inn-Vitational at Bryant University.

Live stats will be provided for all the matches, however, only live video will be available against Bryant and at Brown.

Opening the University of New Orleans Tournament with a four-set loss to the host Privateers, UND closed the trip in Louisiana and Mississippi with three-straight victories, including a sweep at Mississippi Valley State.

Ashley Brueggeman paced the Fighting Hawks attack with 3.13 kills per set and hitting .320. Darian Chwialkowski was well rounded on the outside as she tallied two double-doubles, averaging 2.67 kills per set and 2.47 digs per set. At the net, Lydia Rutten hit .317 and averaged 2.53 points per set as she tallied 28 kills and 14 blocks. Both Brueggeman and Rutten were named to the All-Tournament Team.

In the finale at MVSU, service was the Fighting Hawks specialty as they registered 10 aces in three sets as Sara Antic recorded five and McKenzie Damon tallied four. With Antic at the line, UND posted two 8-0 runs against the Devilettes.

Villanova finished 2-1 at the Cowtown Classic, hosted by TCU. The Wildcats fell to the host Horned Frogs in the finale in four sets. Allie Olsonoski and Remy Fairchild lead the attack for Nova as they boast hitting percentages over .300 and average over 3.00 points per set.

The host Bulldogs own a 0-4 clip after falling at New Hampshire on Tuesday. Bryant is averaging 10 kills per set while hitting .078. Caroline Kennedy leads the team with 2.38 kills per set as well as 0.62 blocks per set.

Marist finished the opening weekend in Buffalo 0-3, falling in straight sets to Alabama and the host Bulls. The Red Foxes went five sets with Colgate but were unable to finish for the first win of the season. Sarah Austin leads the squad with 3.00 kills and 3.27 points per set.

Brown will open its season this weekend at New Hampshire, taking on Seattle, Holy Cross, and the host Wildcats. The Bears finished 11-13 in 2018 and a 4-10 clip in The Ivy League. Eliza Grover is the team's top-returning attacker, averaging 2.53 kills per set and hitting .260.

North Dakota will return to action Sept. 13-14 for the Comfort Inn Fuquay Invitational at Campbell.
