Curry, Peterson Lead Hawks at Bison Team Cup

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota track and field teams sent the throwers and distance groups to Fargo on Saturday to compete in the Bison Team Cup. The Fighting Hawks recorded three top-10 performances in school history, one event win and five top-three finishes at the meet.

Kenna Curry led the way for UND with two top-10 performances in school history. She set the tone with a third-place finish in the weight throw with a PR toss of 58-9 1/4 (17.91m), good for the eighth-best throw in school history. Curry duplicated that performance later in the afternoon with the No. 5 throw in program history in the shot put to take third with a throw of 46-5 1/4 (13.90m).

Ellyssa Peterson led the way on the track, claiming the 3,000-meter crown in the 10th-fastest time in program history, crossing the finish line in 10:04.37. Conny Wohlfahrt was the runner-up in 10:11.45, while Jadyn Keeler took third with a time of 10:11.49. Wohlfahrt and Keeler were less than 8.0 seconds from making the UND top-10 performance list in school history.

Including Curry's third-place finish in the women's weight throw, the Hawks also had a 4-5-6 finish in that event. Natalie Mohring finished fourth with a lob of 58-1 1/4 (17.71m), Allison Lardy placed fifth in a throw of 57-2 (17.42m), and Eve Goldstein took sixth with a toss of 52-0 1/2 (15.86m).

Lardy and Goldstein also joined Curry in the shot put with fourth and sixth place finishes in throws of 45-3 (13.79m) and 44-5 1/4 (13.54m), respectively.

Back on the track, McKenzie Burian (10:15.57) and Mikayla Weiss (10:39.44) finished fourth and seventh, respectively, in the women's 3,000 meters.

Luke Labatte was the top finisher for the men with a fifth-place finish in a time of 8:44.31 in the 3,000 meters. Matthew Russell joined Labatte in the 3,000 meters and crossed the finish line seventh in a time of 8:51.37. Alec Nelson rounded out the top-eight in the event with a personal-best time of 8:53.60.

The Fighting Hawks will return to action next Saturday at the Jim Emmerich Invitational in Brookings, S.D.
