OMAHA, Neb. -- For the second time in three days, the University of North Dakota women's tennis team came up just short. The Fighting Hawks (0-3) fell, 4-3, at Creighton (1-0) on Sunday afternoon to conclude a weekend of tough tennis.
In doubles action, UND got off to the start it wanted.
Sapir Sela and
Andrea Jansson opened up action with a 6-3 victory on the top court; however, Creighton answered back with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position and held off the duo of
Nore Heinitz and
Charlotte Bowles in the third spot by a 7-6 (7-4) margin to earn the doubles point.
The Bluejays built their advantage to 3-0 with wins on the first and third courts, but North Dakota got on the board thanks to another strong performance from a rookie. Freshman
Lucia Rizza notched a 6-2, 7-5 victory at the No. 5 court to cut the deficit to 3-1.
A win at the fourth position gave CU the victory, but UND didn't go down without a fight. Jansson picked up a 6-3, 6-4 triumph on the No. 2 court before
Angela Georgieva ended the match with a three-set win at the bottom spot, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
