MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team fell, 5-2, against Marquette in the opening match of the weekend from Helfaer Tennis Stadium in Milwaukee.
UND (0-4) once again battled tough against strong competition, but dropped a trio of contests in three sets to come up just short vs. the Golden Eagles (2-3).
In doubles play, the duo of
Allie Ochotorena and
Lucia Rizza knotted play at a win apiece with a 6-3 triumph at the second position, but Marquette took the two-person point with wins on the first and third courts.
After the hosts pushed their lead to 2-0 with a win at the bottom spot,
Nore Heinitz got North Dakota on the board on the No. 4 court. The freshman rolled to a 7-5, 6-3 victory for her second victory in her collegiate career.
The remaining four matches all went to three sets, but UND was only able to pull out one final victory, as Marquette held on for the 5-2 win. Rizza kept her strong afternoon rolling by capturing that three-set win, bouncing back from a 6-1 defeat in the opening set to post 6-3, 7-5 scores over the next two stanzas to clinch a point.
North Dakota returns right back to action on Saturday morning, battling Eastern Illinois at 11 a.m. from Milwaukee.
