SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Sophomore defender Julia Briggs was named to the 2022 Summit League Women's Soccer All-Academic Team announced by league officials on Wednesday. There was a total of 12 student-athletes named to the squad that was voted on by the membership's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.
Briggs is one of five student-athletes to be honored that carried a perfect 4.0 grade point average, with this being the first academic honor for Briggs during her career.
The sophomore appeared and started all 20 games on defense for UND, helping the Fighting Hawks advance to the postseason for the second time in the program's Division I history. Briggs notched a trio of assists, all coming on game-winning goals in victories over Southern Indiana, UAPB and South Dakota.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's 10 institutions that carry women's soccer. The #SummitWSOC academic all-league team is made up of the 11 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
