GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team wasted no time getting back into the groove on its home court, rolling to a 7-0 victory over Minnesota State Moorhead on Sunday morning from Choice Health and Fitness from Grand Forks.
"Good job by the entire team today taking care of business in an efficient yet productive manner," said UND head coach
Tom Boysen. "We are trying to help these players establish a clear individual identity as it relates to their own unique skill set, and matches like this should give them confidence to freely play their games."
UND (4-5) notched its third straight victory, all coming by a 7-0 score, and first at home this season. The Fighting Hawks have won all four of its matches by a shutout this season and improve to 10-2 at home since the 2018-19 season.
"As the season goes on, I am confident that they will develop even better awareness of how they should attack each specific situation," said Boysen. "Again, what a treat to get to play at this facility and in front of such loyal fans."
In doubles action, the hosts jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with dominating victories.
Sapir Sela and
Andrea Jansson started it off with a 6-1 victory at the top spot before an identical score posted by
Allie Ochotorena and
Lucia Rizza sealed the point in two-person play.
Charlotte Bowles and
Nore Heinitz picked up the lone shutout of doubles action with a 6-0 triumph on the No. 3 court to cement the strong start.
Bowles refused to let any points be scored on her in singles play either, moving the advantage to 2-0 with a pair of 6-0 blankings to start off the individual action. Ochotorena (6-1, 6-1) and Sela (6-1, 6-0) brought home the match victory, but the Hawks weren't finished yet.
UND rattled off three more singles victories, all in straight sets, by Jansson, Heinitz and Rizza to finish off the 7-0 win.
North Dakota returns to action next weekend with a trip to Las Vegas to battle UNLV (Friday), Dixie State (Saturday) and Montana (Sunday).
