MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis bounced back from a 7-0 defeat to Minnesota on Friday with a resounding 7-0 victory of its own over Northern Iowa on Saturday morning from the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
UND (2-5) won every set during singles play and claimed a pair of doubles match to dispatch the Panthers (0-3) for its second win of the season.
In doubles action, the Fighting Hawks jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead thanks to decisions on the first and third courts.
Sapir Sela and
Andrea Jansson rolled to a 6-2 victory at the top spot before
Charlotte Bowles and
Nore Heinitz sealed two-person play with a 6-1 triumph on the No. 3 court.
Angela Georgieva carried the momentum her teammates brought into singles play, defeating her opponent by a 6-1, 6-2 score to extend the lead to 2-0 at the No. 6 position.
Allie Ochotorena pushed the match to its brink with a 6-2, 6-0 win on the third court and a 3-0 lead.
A pair of 6-2 scores by Heinitz at the No. 4 court sealed the victory for the Fighting Hawks, but the green and white weren't finished. Fellow freshman
Lucia Rizza added a victory on the No. 5 court by a 6-4, 6-3 margin and identical 6-2, 6-4 wins by Jansson and Sela on the top-two courts cemented the sweep.
North Dakota jumps right back into action later this afternoon against Gustavus at 5 p.m. from Minneapolis.
