RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The University of North Dakota softball team secured a victory over Harvard, 4-3, to notch a win against the Crimson after falling to them on day one of the UCR/Riverside Invitational.
After Harvard jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth, the Fighting Hawks rallied and delivered a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win 4-3 win for UND.
Jackie Albrecht was solid in the circle with a complete-game victory. The freshman allowed just seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four to move to 3-3 on the season.
The Crimson jumped out to an early lead with a run in the bottom of the second. The Fighting Hawks battled but were unable to score in the third. North Dakota responded in the top of the fourth.
Callie Honig doubled to left field for an RBI as she advanced
Jocelyn Kirk to third and brought in
Madi Moore. Harvard went on to secure two runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead (3-1).
North Dakota continued to create opportunities on offense as they loaded the bases at the top of the fifth. Kirk stepped up to bat and hit an RBI to bring in
Chevelle Sartin. The defense handled the Crimson as Albrecht pitched a 1-2-3 inning to end the fifth.
The sixth remained scoreless for both teams. The Fighting Hawks brought the momentum in the seventh. Moore singled to place her on base with Kirk stepping up to bat. Kirk hit one through to earn an RBI and bring herself and Moore in. The runs secured the 4-3 win as Albrecht struck out one in the bottom of the seventh and secured two more outs for the victory.
North Dakota returns to action for the final game of the UCR/CBU Invitational against Columbia at 2:30 PM.
