LINCOLN, Neb. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Gonzaga on Sunday afternoon from the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
UND (2-5) battled hard against another tough opponent for the second straight day, but could not overcome the Bulldogs (3-2) to close out the weekend without a win.
In doubles action, the Zags jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a pair of victories on the No. 2 and 3 courts; however, the Fighting Hawks put up a battle with a pair of tight scores. The duo of
Charlotte Bowles and
Nyah Kauders fell in a tough, 7-6 fight at the bottom spot while the top pair of
Andrea Jansson and
Sapir Sela held a 6-5 advantage when play was halted following Gonzaga grabbing the 1-0 start.
Gonzaga was able to continue its hot play during singles, picking up a win on each court to close out the 7-0 victory.
Nore Heinitz collected the lone set triumph for the green and white, snagging a 7-6 score in the middle stanza, but ultimately fell in the tiebreaker on the No. 3 court.
North Dakota heads to Milwaukee, Wis. for a pair of matches next weekend, beginning with Marquette on Friday afternoon before closing with UIC on Saturday.
