Fighting Hawks Drop Pair at Mount St. Mary’s

EMMITSBURG, Md. – The North Dakota Softball team started their week in Maryland Wednesday as they took on Mount St. Mary's in a doubleheader. Avery Neuhart got the win in game one while Camryn Lasota took the loss. In game two Olivia Murphy got the win while Makaela Carr took the loss.

In game one, UND got off to a fast start. Taya Hopfauf got a two out double to extend the second inning, then Katie Joten walked to bring Angie Dumlao to the plate. Dumlao drove a ball into right field to bring Hopfauf in from second.

MSMU answered in the bottom of the third to tie it, and then in the top of the fifth Dumlao got a one out walk and then moved to second on a groundout. Brooklyn Morris came in to run for Dumlao and Izzy Haslett singled to short to put runners at the corners. Cassie Castaneda followed and singled to third, which brought two runs in to score.

From there, MSMU tied it up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and then scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth on a bases loaded walk.

In game two, the UND bats couldn't get going as the team managed only two hits in the game. Madi Moore got a single in the third and Angie Dumlao singled in the seventh. UND did have scoring threats in the first, third and seventh innings as runners reached scoring position with walks and stolen bases, but were unable to make it home.

 

Key Points

·         In game one Jackie Albrecht set a new season high with eight strikeouts in six innings pitched.

·         Dumlao collected hits in both games.

·         Castaneda had her first three hit game since March of 2022.

·         Baylee Howley got her first hit since February 28 as a pinch hitter in game one.

UND will stay in the Old Line State as they head to College Park, Md. for the Capital City Classic over the weekend on the campus of the University of Maryland.
