Hawks Fight Hard, Come up Just Short Against Bison

FARGO, N.D. – For the third straight weekend the North Dakota Softball team played in Fargo, this time taking on the North Dakota State Bison. In game one the Hawks fell 8-5, with Paige Vargas picking up the win and Makaela Carr taking the loss. Mariah Peters had a two run double and Cassie Castaneda went 2-3 with a solo home run. Madison Pederson also had an RBI groundout and Baylee Howley an RBI triple.

In game two, Jackie Albrecht pitched a complete game and allowed only four runs but took the loss as UND fell 4-2 in a pitcher's game, while Lainey Lyle picked up the win for NDSU. Castaneda hit an RBI double in the third to tie the game at one for her second RBI of the day, but NDSU scored the next three. An RBI double from Lauren Brown cut the UND deficit to two but the Hawks were unable to bring another run in.

Key Points

·         Castaneda has now hit safely in six of the last seven games.

·         Madi Moore, Katie Joten, Castaneda, Baylee Howley and Taya Hopfauf all picked up a hit in each of the two games.

·         Albrecht pitched her sixth complete game of the year.
