GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Former North Dakota men's basketball forward Mitchell Sueker was named a 2023 Tau Beta Pi Laureate earlier this month. Tau Beta Pi is an Engineering Honor Society, founded at Lehigh University in 1885, and is the largest Engineering Honor Society in the world. The organization has 255 collegiate chapters and 50 active alumni chapters, and over 600,000 members in its history.

Sueker was one of four winners selected this year, the 39th year in which the organization has presented the award. Overall, 121 students have been winners of this illustrious honor.

Upon receiving the award, Sueker said, "I am extremely honored to be a part of Tau Beta Pi, and very grateful for the people and opportunities God has placed in my life. I've had great teachers, mentors, and coaches who have guided and inspired me in Marshall, South Dakota School of Mines, and the University of North Dakota. I am also very thankful for the love and support of my family. I plan to complete my PhD in Biomedical Engineering and utilize the knowledge gained to help others in the medical realm."

Sueker played three seasons at North Dakota from 2020-23, after beginning his college career at South Dakota School of Mines. He appeared in 59 games for UND, making 30 starts. He averaged nearly seven points and three rebounds per contest in kelly green and white.
