GRAND FORKS, N.D. - North Dakota will host No. 5 South Dakota at Noon this Saturday. The game will be televised on Midco Sports. It will also be carried on the Fighting Hawks Radio Network with a pregame show starting at 11 a.m.
The Fighting Hawks carry a 5-5 record and a 2-4 mark in MVFC play after dropping a 38-7 decision to the No. 3 Jackrabbits last week.
Isaiah Smith scored the opening points of the game for UND on a 62-yard touchdown scamper with 8:22 left in the opening frame and carried a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. SDSU scored four touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 31-7 at the break and scored a touchdown in the third quarter to bring the final tally to 38-7. The game marked just the fourth loss inside the Alerus Center for the Fighting Hawks in their last 34 home contests.
The Coyotes enter the weekend with a 7-2 record and a 5-1 mark in conference action after thumping the Sycamores of Indiana State, 49-0, inside the DakotaDome on Saturday. USD piled up over 600 yards of offense in the win and the defense held ISU to just 129 yards of total offense. Aidan Bouman went 14-for-20 passing for 238 yards and a pair of scores in the victory. Quaron Adams was the most productive receiver with two grabs for 133 yards and a pair of scores, while Carter Bell hauled in six catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. Charles Pierre Jr. paced the Coyote backfield with 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 11 carries.
UND holds a 64-32-5 lead in the all-time series and is 39-10-2 in games played in Grand Forks between the two squads. USD has not won in Grand Forks since a 45-3 Coyote victory on Sept. 21, 1985. Most recently, the Coyotes defeated the Hawks, 14-10, in a defensive slugfest in Vermillion last season. North Dakota's last win in the series was a 28-19 victory in Grand Forks in 2022.
