SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For the second time this season, North Dakota softball senior left-handed pitcher
Makaela Carr has been named the Kwik Star Summit League Softball Peak Pitcher of the Week. The official announcement was made by the league office on Monday afternoon. Carr becomes the first Fighting Hawk to earn a weekly honor from the Summit League twice in the same season.
Carr appeared in four games over the past week for North Dakota. In all, the left hander started twice with one win and picked up two more saves to run her season total to five which is currently the third most nationally. She totaled 14.0 innings and collected 16 strikeouts to just three walks with a weekly ERA of 2.50 as her season ERA dipped below 3.00 and now sits at 2.91.
The Smithville, Missouri native earned the first of two saves on the week by closing down host Tennessee Tech in the final 1.2 innings as she allowed just one hit, while striking out two to secure a 7-4 UND win.
She picked up where she left off in the second game against the Golden Eagles. Carr went the distance for the third time this season, tossing 7.0 innings scattering seven hits and three walks, while allowing just two runs with six strikeouts as she improved to 5-4 on the campaign.
Over the weekend, Carr pitched 4.2 innings in a no decision to Dartmouth. She picked up five strikeouts in her 16
th appearance of the season. The following day, Carr closed the door on the Big Green with 1.1 innings of relief, which saw just one hit and Dartmouth strand the bases loaded in the sixth, including three strikeouts with two coming in a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
