Three place top-10, Hawks finish second at Jackrabbit Invitational

BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The University of North Dakota men's golf team kept its strong play rolling at the Jackrabbit Invitational, hosted by South Dakota State, from Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. over the weekend.

The Fighting Hawks surged up the leaderboard and finished second as a team with a team score of 885 (+21) to sit just seven shots behind the host-Jackrabbits for the team title. NoDak went nearly shot-for-shot with SDSU over the two-day, three-round event, but a strong middle round by the Jackrabbits proved to be the difference.

A trio of Hawks placed in the top-10 on the individual side, led by reigning Summit League Peak Performer of the Week Grayson Wetch with a 217 (+1) to place in a tie for fourth. The Fargo, N.D., native now has back-to-back finishes in the top-5 and opened his tournament with a 68 (-4) to tie for the second-best round score of the weekend.

Lucas Feterl put together back-to-back 73's (+1) over the final two rounds to jump up to eighth on the leaderboard with a final score of 221 (+5) for his second top-10 finish of the season while Joseph Kortan finished just one shot behind his teammate at 222 (+6) to finish ninth and his first top-10 placement of the campaign.

Nathan Peyerl rounded out the scoring for UND and just missed a top-10 finish of his own, sitting tied for 12th with a 225 (+9) while Kagan Kollar bounced back from a tough opening round to fire a 75 (+3) over his final 18 holes to end with a 239 (+23) and place tied for 51st.

Freshman Carson Skarperud competed as an individual for the event and finished tied for 18th with a 228 (+12) score.

North Dakota will be back in action on March 24-25 at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate from Wigwam Country Club in Arizona.
