GRAND FORKS, N.D. - No. 20/22 North Dakota will host Portland State inside the Alerus Center on Saturday. Kickoff between the Fighting Hawks and Vikings is set for 6 p.m. The game will be televised on Midco Sports. It will also be carried on the Fighting Hawks Radio Network with a pregame show starting at 5 p.m.
North Dakota is 0-1 on the young season after falling 38-35 at No. 17/20 Kansas State. In the back-and-forth contest that featured nine lead changes, UND led 35-31 with just 1:49 left in the contest before the Wildcats traveled 81 yards over the next 1:03 to escape with the victory. Jerry Kaminski was impressive in his first collegiate start, going 23-for-38 passing for 231 yards and a touchdown, while also punching in two short-yardage rushing scores. Korey Tai produced career-bests in both receptions (5) and receiving yards (37), including a 22-yard scoring reception early in the fourth quarter. Tai also added 39 yards on the ground, while Sawyer Seidl paced the backfield with 62 yards rushing and a pair of scores.
Portland State is 0-2 this season and lost 69-0 at BYU last Saturday. C.J. Jordan led the PSU passing attack and went 8-for-14 for 58 yards. Micah Avery was his favorite target and had three grabs for 11 yards. Jacques Badolato-Birdsell led the Viking backfield with 28 yards on 12 rushing attempts.
This will be the ninth meeting between the two teams, with North Dakota holding a 6-2 series lead. Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the two squads since Nov. 10, 2018, when the Hawks held on for a 17-10 victory. UND is a perfect 4-0 in the series in games played in Grand Forks. This will also be the third meeting between the two teams in Potato Bowl USA history, with North Dakota winning in both 2012 (45-37) and 1981 (17-10). The Fighting Hawks are riding a four-game winning streak in Potato Bowl USA Games.
