NOTES: Track and Field Splits for Two Meets

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota track and field teams hit the road for the final time in the indoor season with a pair of away meets with competition kicking off in Brookings, S.D., and Boston, Mass.  
 
Out west at Boston University, a group of distance runners will take on the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, with men's competition on Friday and women's action on Saturday. Each day will begin at 8 a.m. with live results provided by Lancer Timing.
 
Down south at South Dakota State, the Fighting Hawks will compete in the two-day SDSU Indoor Classic. Running and field events each begin at 3 p.m. on Friday before resuming at 11:30 a.m. on the track with a noon start for field on Saturday. Live results will be provided by Dakota Timing.
 
Last Time Out
North Dakota track and field concluded weekend competition with the second day of action at the Bison Open, collecting nine top-five finishes on the day inside Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility. 
 
Anya Williams collected a pair of top-three finishes with her second-place showing in the high jump (5-4 1/2, 1.64m) and third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of (37-6 3/4, 11.45m).
 
Ava Phrakonkham ran a 7.76 in the event finals of the 60-meter dash, tying her personal best, and finished as runner-up. Also competing, Gretchen Raney (7.80) finished fourth and Alimath Salou (7.84) took sixth.
 
In the 60-meter hurdles, Ryan Lange took third place on the men's half of the event with his time of 8.43 while Marta Marksa took third in the women's half after clocking an 8.69. Marksa went on to add in a runner-up finish in the women's 400-meter dash in 58.68 as Kim Hitchen won the event in 57.68.
 
Julia Matthews collected a top-five showing in the shot put with her mark of 46-1 1/2 (14.06m) while Haidyn Skeen (45-2 1/4, 13.77m) finished with a new personal best.

* Louis-Lys Fanucchi – Mile Run (No. 1 – 4:00.02)

Preseason Rankings and Athletes to Watch
In the Preseason Summit League Coaches' Poll released on December 3, the North Dakota women were selected second with two first-place votes, while the Fighting Hawk men were picked fourth. The same release named Jadyn Keeler, Matej Hrebacka, Shane Zierden and Julia Matthews as Athletes to Watch in this Summit League this season.

A one-day track and field meet at home is up next for North Dakota, with the UND Tune Up set for Friday, February 20 inside the Frederick "Fritz" D. Pollard Jr. Athletic Center as the last competition before the conference championships.
