NOTES: Nine Fighting Hawks Set for NCAA West Prelims

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota track and field will be represented by nine Fighting Hawks at this week's NCAA West Preliminary Round held in Fayetteville, Ark. The school-record-tying number of UND qualifiers earned a total of 10 bids to the post-season meet after ranking in the top 48 in the region in their respective events.
 
Louis-Lys Fanucchi, Frida Giersdorff, Shewaye Johnson, Jadyn Keeler, Julia Matthews, Cailey Moton, Naja Weiler, Anya Williams and Shane Zierden are set to take on the four-day meet that all kicks off on Wednesday.
 
Competition begins for North Dakota on Wednesday as Zierden takes on the men's long jump at 1:45 p.m., an adjusted time due to predicted weather. Thursday follows with the pair of Matthews and Moton in the women's hammer throw—beginning at 9:30 a.m.—before a trio of Hawks take on the 10,000-meter run at 9:10 p.m. Friday's lone event for UND comes in the form of the men's 3000-meter steeplechase where Fanucchi will take the track. The weekend will then come to a close on Saturday with a trio of events as Williams competes in the 2 p.m. high jump, Giersdorff takes on the 5:40 p.m. 3000-meter steeplechase and Keeler runs the 8:10 p.m. 5000-meter run.

ALL-SUMMIT HONORS & AWARDS
North Dakota track and field head coach Jim Vahrenkamp was named the Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year as 16 Fighting Hawks earned All-Summit League honors across the men's and women's squads, league officials announced on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Vahrenkamp collected his first career Women's Coach of the Year honor after leading the Fighting Hawks to a second-place finish at the conference championships with 196 points. It marked the best finish at the Summit League Outdoor meet in program history for North Dakota as UND swept the Track and Field MVP honors for a second year in a row. The women garnered six first-place finishes and eclipsed 13 All-League honorees over the course of the three-day meet.
 
The individual conference honors for UND came as 16 athletes finished in the top-three in an event category at the league championship meet, totaling 22 All-Summit recognitions between the men's and women's teams.
