Edinburg, Texas – The University of North Dakota baseball team will open the 2010 Great West Baseball Tournament on Wednesday morning against No. 4 seed Houston Baptist at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The tilt between the Sioux and Huskies is game one of the four-day tournament and first pitch is slated for 9 a.m.

The inaugural league tournament will feature all eight GWC teams and be played in a round-robin, two-pool format where all teams are guaranteed three games.

The fifth-seeded Sioux will play in Pool One where they are also paired with HBU (26-30, 15-13 GWC), regular season champion and No. 1 seed Utah Valley (38-17, 26-2 GWC) and No. 8 seed Chicago State (4-49, 2-26 GWC).

UND will also play the top-seeded Wolverines on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. and conclude pool play on Friday against Chicago State at 9 a.m. Saturday's championship game between the two pool winners at 5 p.m.

The Sioux dropped three of four to HBU in the regular season at Kraft Field in what was the most tightly-contest league series of the campaign for UND. The only game not decided by two runs or less was a 9-5 victory by the Huskies in extra innings in the opening game of a doubleheader on May 15.

The Wolverines swept UND in the opening series of league play back in Orem, Utah (April 9-11). The Sioux took their second GWC road series of the season at Chicago State, defeating the Cougars in three out of four games. UND outscored the Cougars, 37-17, in the four-game set.

The other road series win for the Sioux came at the site of this year's tournament as UND won three out of four games against Texas-Pan American (April 16-18).

The host Broncs (20-32, 9-18 GWC) are the No. 6 seed and will open the tournament against No. 3 seed New York Tech (24-28-1, 15-13 GWC). UTPA and the Bears are in Pool Two along with No. 2 seed Northern Colorado (32-22, 22-6 GWC) and No. 7 seed New Jersey Institute of Technology (13-41, 9-18 GWC).
