Volleyball loses in five to Minnesota Crookston

CROOKSTON, Minn. -- After dropping the first two games, UND rebounded to win games three and four, but it wasn't enough as UMC went on to win game five, 15-10. It is UND's first loss to Minnesota Crookston since October 19, 2004. UND falls to 5-17 overall while Minnesota Crookston improves to 6-20 overall.

Minnesota Crookston jumped out to the early two game lead, 30-27 and 31-29; but UND rebounded by winning big in game three, 30-13. Game four was a close game, but North Dakota pulled away to win 30-24. Game five was a see-saw battle, but the Golden Eagles pulled away to win 15-10.

Sophomore setter Megan Langseth (Alexandria, Minn.) recorded a double-double in her third straight game. Langseth finished with 48 set assists and 12 digs in the contest. Fellow sophomore Amanda Polzin (Hutchinson, Minn.) had a team-high 18 kills. Polzin also hit .300 in the game. Senior Tara Holmen (Berthold, N.D.) notched 15 kills for the Sioux.

Defensively, the Sioux were led by freshman Courtney Halvorson (Oklee, Minn.). Halvorson finished with 20 digs in the match. It is the third straight game that Halvorson finished with 20 or more digs in a contest and the seventh straight game in which she recorded double-figures in digs. Freshmen Erin Joki (Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Briena Hawkins (Andover, Minn.) tallied 18 and 17 digs, respectively.

North Dakota will return to action on Friday against non-conference opponent, Concordia- St. Paul. The game time is 7 p.m. and will be played at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn.
