GRAND FORKS, N.D.--University of North Dakota sophomore center fielder Casie Hanson has been named to the 2007 Daktronics, Inc. Softball All-North Central Region first team in a vote of regional sports information directors.
Hanson is the first UND softball player to earn all-region accolades since infielders Holly Bonk and Alena Valdez were recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2000.
A native of St. Peter, Minn., Hanson led the North Central Conference in batting average (.455), hits (86), runs scored (61) and on-base percentage (.490) while setting UND single-season records for hits and runs scored. Her career batting average of .418 is also a school record.
Hanson started all 51 games for the Sioux in 2007 and led the team in batting average, at-bats, runs, hits, home runs, total bases, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and stolen bases.
UND went 23-28 overall this season, including a 4-8 NCC record, and finished third at the NCC tournament.
