FLORENCE, AL -- In their final game of the North Alabama Classic, North Dakota lost a heartbreaker to Tusculum College, 3-2. UND won the first two games of the match, but Tusculum came back to win three straight and defeat the Sioux. Tusculum improves to 1-3 on the season while UND drops to 0-4 on the season.
UND was led by sophomore Britta Hanson's (Thompson, N.D.) outstanding offensive performance. Hanson tied a career high 20 kills against Tusculum College. Mary Blume (Sr. - Herman, Minn.) finished with 13 kills and Amanda Polzin (So. - Hutchinson, Minn.) added 11 to the Sioux offense. Setter Allison Louwagie (Jr. - Marshall, Minn.) had a season high 40 set assists.
Sophomore Ashley Holmen (Berthold, Minn.) had a career high 24 digs to lead the Sioux defense. Fellow sophomore Megan Langseth (Alexandria, Minn.) contributed nine digs to the defense.
UND will return home to play Minnesota State - Moorhead on Thursday in the UND Fall Tournament. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and will be played at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
