LAREDO, TEXAS ? The University of North Dakota's Megan Langseth and Lindsay Vortherms have been named to the 2008 Border Olympics All-Tournament team. The tournament was hosted by Texas A&M International this past weekend.
Langseth, a native of Alexandria, Minn., led the Fighting Sioux with a team-high 104 assists and a 52.4 (12-for-21) attack percentage. The junior setter also added 12 kills, 21 digs, 14.0 points, and two block solos. So far in 2008 she has logged 305 sets, 63 digs, 27 kills, two aces, seven blocks (two solo), 33.5 points, and a 46.0 (27-for-50) attack percentage.
A Windom, Minn., native, Vortherms led the Sioux defense with 43 digs. On the offensive, the junior libero tallied two aces. Thus far, she has recorded 119 digs ? including a career-high 30 digs on Aug. 30 against Western Oregon ? seven assists, seven aces, and seven points.
The Fighting Sioux were the only team to complete the weekend undefeated with wins over Tarleton (25-20, 25-19, 12-25, 25-20), Texas A&M International (25-15, 25-8, 25-22), and UT-Brownsville (25-18, 25-14, 25-15). The three-straight victories helped UND to a school-record tying 8-0 season opening win-streak and gave head coach Kari Peterson the title of winningest coach in a debut season.
On Wednesday, the green and white will try to break the school record as they face Mayville State in a 7 p.m. court meeting at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. North Dakota will return on Thursday for a 7 p.m. match with Minnesota, Crookston before heading to St. Peter for a Saturday afternoon doubleheader with Gustavus Adolphus and Carleton. Weekend action is set to begin at 11 a.m.
