GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- University of North Dakota softball coach Sami Strinz has announced the signing of Krystin Jantzer to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Fighting Sioux beginning in 2010-11.

A native of Grants Pass, Ore., Jantzer was a 2009 American Softball Association of America (ASA) 16A national champion and a 2009 Colorado Fireworks Fastpitch Tournament champion along with winning the 2008 Oregon 6A state championship. Playing for Grants Pass High School, she was named a first team all-conference shortstop and second team all-state her senior season.

"I am thrilled for the future of the Fighting Sioux softball team," Strinz said. "Jantzer will provide a great deal of power from the left side, she will be a huge offensive threat. Defensively, she will help anchor down our infield. She is coming to UND to help us put our school on the map in the NCAA D-I softball world. She is a huge piece of our puzzle in being ready for post season in 2013."

Last season Jantzer led the Southwest Conference with a .524 average and a .714 slugging percentage and has hit eight career home runs and thrown three no-hitters.

The daughter of Gary and Lisa Jantzer, she is penciled in to anchor the middle infield for the Sioux and will also pitch. She has lettered four times as a prep and is a member of the 2008-10 National Honor Society. She is planning on majoring in business finance. 

When asked about choosing UND Jantzer said: "I loved the school and community and I want to change the way people think about UND softball and contribute to turning the softball program around."
