SARTELL, Minn.--The Fighting Sioux tennis team captured its fourth straight win this evening with a 6-3 victory over host Saint Benedict at Gold's Gym Tennis Court.
Leading the way for the Sioux were sisters Katie and Emily Callison (Mesa, Ariz.) who each earned straight-set singles victories before teaming with teammates for doubles wins.
Katie Callison, playing in the No. 1 singles, picked up 7-5 and 6-0 wins over Katie Rudnitski, then paired with Molly Maurer (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.) for an 8-2 win over Rudnitski and Lauren Jones in No. 2 singles.
Emily Callison earned 6-4 and 7-5 wins over Rachel Tiegs in No. 3 singles, then followed with an 8-6 win in No. 1 doubles with teammate Katie Wessman (Sr., Fargo, N.D.).
Maurer and fellow junior Brynne Wischer (Grand Forks) were also victorious in singles action. Maurer, in the No. 4 spot, cruised to a straight-set (6-1, 6-0) win over Jones, while Wischer defeated Kylie Huther 6-1 and 6-0 in No. 2 singles.
The Fighting Sioux are back in action tomorrow night at St. Cloud State.
